Ed Hays was born March 27, 1909 in Jackson County and departed this life Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Jackson Manor Nursing Home in Annville, being 103 years of age. He was the son of the late James Franklin & Olivia (Turner) Hays. Ed is survived by 2 sons, Phillip Hays of Campbellsville, KY and Dr. David Hays of Gray Hawk, KY. He is also survived by a sister Helen Blackmore of Brooklyn, NY. Ed was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Olivia, Phillip Edward, David James & Nathan. In addition to his parents, Ed was also preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hays, 3 brothers, Hobert, John & Virgil Hays and 3 sisters, Dora Dunham, Sara Bybee & Nannie Hays. Ed had been a member of the Gray Hawk Reformed Church since 1940. He had also been State Representative from 1960 -1962. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. Funeral service was held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Carroll de Forest officiating. Pallbearers were Charles, Keith & Tommy Hays, Donald "Duck" Moore, Robert & Kenny Lakes. Graveside military services were conducted by the following members of the local D.A.V. Chapter #165 Jim Bryant, Joe McKinney, John Lakes, B.J. McKinney, Donald Harrison, Leon Bales, Bobby Lakes, Fred Sandlin, Earl Coffey, Mike Montgomery & Paul Trent. Burial followed in the Hays Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. www.lakesfuneralhomemckee.com.
