On the 1920 U. S. Census of McKee Precinct No. 1, Jackson Co., Kentucky, James and Olivia appear with their children, Dora, John, Virgil, Sarah, Edna and Maud. Their daughter-in-law Flora and grandson James F. are also members of the household. James is a farmer. All members of the household were born in Kentucky.
On the 1930 U. S. Census of Gray Hawk, Jackson Co., Kentucky, J. F. Hays appears with his wife Oliva[sp], sons Virgle and Edd and daughter Maude. Also in the household is daughter-in-law Mary and grandchildren James, Gertrude and Curtis. These are evidently children of Hobert Hays.
