James S. Kirkpatrick
(1836 - 23 Jul 1875)
James S. Kirkpatrick was born ca. 1835-36 in Illinois, and died 23 July 1875, McDonough County, Illinois. He is buried in Camp Creek Cemetery near Macomb, Illinois. He married first, 10 March 1859, Morgan County, Illinois, to Harried H. ("Hattie") Ogle, daughter of Absalom Ephraim and Jane (Holland) Ogle. She was born 3 July 1840 and died 8 February 1872 in childbirth. She is buried with James in Camp Creek Cemetery.
James married second on 14 August 1873 to Lydia Pigg, daughter of Anderson and Mary (Sanders) Pigg. Lydia was born 15 July 1845 in Bernadotte Township, Fulton County, Illinois. After James' death, Lydia signed away all of her rights to his estate and moved back to live with her parents. The children by James' marriage to Harriet Ogle were taken in by James' brother John Lane Kirkpatrick and his wife Mary. Lydia raised her two children and two other girls, daughters of her deceased sister and sister-in-law. She also cared for her parents until they died. Lydia died 3 November 1928, in Smithfield, Fulton County, Illinois, and is buried in the Brock Cemetery in Fulton County.**
There were eight children born of the two marriages.
McDonough County sources show that J. S. Kirkpatrick was a pastor of Spring Creek Camp Meetings, a Methodist Episcopal church, after 1857.
