NE, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in his home following a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ken Glandorf. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Betty; a daughter, Barbara Stellmach of Iowa City; two sons, Dennis Candler and David Candler, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Mike and John Stellmach, Josh and Justin Candler, Erin and Sierra Candler, Kali Childers and Cheyenne Yerkes; two brothers, Clifford Candler of California and Charles Candler of Illinois; and a sister, Bernice Wilson of Edgewood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Glenn, Howard and Arthur; and his sisters, Marjorie, Dorothy, Alice and Grace. John was born Feb. 23, 1931, the son of Marshall and Bertha Noyes Candler, in Manchester. He served in the United States Navy. On Nov. 27, 1954, John was united in marriage to Betty J. Manahl in Galena, Ill. He was employed through Options of Linn County at Souvenir Pen. John loved his grandchildren and they were his life. He will be greatly missed. A memorial fund has been established in John's memory.
