Obituary from Southern Illinoisan, September 10, 1976: Thurman C. Lewis. Funeral services for Thurman C. Lewis, 87, of rural Sesser will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Horse Prairie Baptist Church, near Sesser. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. today at the Brayfield Funeral Home in Sesser. Mr. Lewis died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 9, 1976, in Miners Hospital in Christopher. He was born May 27, 8189 (1889-JPK) in Franklin County to Edward and Ada Jane Kirkpatrick Lewis. He was married to Verna Graham, October 1, 1911. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Horse Prairie Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, a daughter Aliene Veach of Marion, Ind.; four sons. Darrell and Hari Ray, both of Benton, Leslie of Marion, Ind., and Kenneth of rural Pinckneyville; three brothers, Archie, John and Hosea, all of rural Sesser; two sisters Rella Cockrum of Abilene, Tex., and Delsie Kirkpatrick of Sesser; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
