Obituary from the Wichita Evening Eagle, May 18, 1960 page 9A: Former Haven Resident Dies. Mrs. Johanna Meier, 83 of 835 S. Millwood, died early Wednesday at Wesley Hospital. She was born April 1, 1877 in Missouri and moved to Wichita in 1939 from Haven, Kan. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mrs. Meier is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hedwig Steffens, 536 B Yale, and five sons, Bernhard Arkebauer of Omaha, Neb.; George of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Reinhold of Chicago; Arthur of Moline, Ill.; and Martin of Seattle, Wash. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ernestine Damaske of Indianapolis and Mrs. Lena Schneider of Spokane, Wash., a brother, Walter Toenjes of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are to be later by the Downing Mortuary.

Arkebauer, 2810 Weisser Park Ave., received word of the death of his mother, Mrs. August E. Meier, which occurred shortly after noon yesterday in Wichita, Kan. She was 83 years old and had been ill for the past two months. Arkebauer conducts the Lutheran Choral Society, is choirmaster at Zion Lutheran church and is director of music at Defiance College. Mrs. Meier, born in Stover, Mo., was the daughter of a Lutheran minister, and also was married to a Lutheran clergyman, the Rev. George W. Arkebauer . Besides the son here, four other sons survive. They are Reinhold Arkebauer, Chicago; Arthur Arkebauer, Moline, Ill.; Martin Arkebauer, Seattle, and Bernard Arkebauer of Omaha. Also surviving are a sister, Hedwig Stessen, Wichita; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services and burial will be in Wichita.
