Greenville Daily News, January 18, 1982: Walter Toenjes, 86, 315 W. Cass St., died Sunday at Belding Community Hospital. Mr. Toenjes was born April 1, 1895 in Ida. He was a retired research horticulturist and received his master's degree from Michigan State University. He was a member of Michigan State Horticultural Society, Kent - Ottawa Horticultural Society and was a World War I Army overseas veteran. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Eileen) Smith, Grand Rapids, Mrs. Henri (Joanne) Barbour, Columbus, Ohio; a son, Robert, Glendale, Ariz.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held today at Marshall Funeral Home, Greenville, Pastor Dennis L. Thompson officiating. Interment was in Rosedale Memorial Park, Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
