From Jane Grubbs, September 2017: When Harley's daughter Ruby died the doctors thought she was contagious, so they quarantined the family and would not let any of them attend Ruby's funeral. After the test came back, they found out she died of appendicitis. Harley nearly killed the doctors for missing his daughter's funeral.
Unknown Franklin Co., Illinois area newspaper, No Date: Harley M. Kirkpatrick, 85, of 203 Mulkey St., Christopher, died at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 1978, in Franklin Hospital in Benton. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of the Mulkeytown Christian Church. He was born Jan. 16, 1893 in Mulkeytown to G.M. and Alice Mulkey Kirkpatrick. He was a retired coal miner, last working at Old Ben No. 11 mine. He also served as a merchant policeman in Christopher, before his retirement. Survivors are his wife, the former Marie Watson; two sons, Norman and Richard, both of Christopher, three daughters, Phyllis Grubbs, Virginia Waller and Hester Salo, also of Christopher, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be in the Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
