After his marriage William lived in McKee for a few years, but soon returned to Gray Hawk where he owned a store, was engaged in farming and was also postmaster for a number of years. He moved to Annville, Ky. where he was a merchant, and from there to London, where he entered into the wholesale grocery business. Both [he and his wife] were member of the Baptist Church.
On the 1930 U. S. Census W. R. Engle appears with his wife, Mary age 52, and children Daisy, Edna, W. R. Jr., and Mary L. William is a merchant at a wholesale house. Daughter Daisy is a teacher in a public school.
Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Sunday, April 9, 1939, Page 13, Col. 3: London Man Hurt Fatally In Fall. London, Ky., April 8 (Special)---W. R. Engle, 66, president and general manager of the London Grocery Company here, was injured fatally about 3 o'clock this afternoon when he fell from a truck, the loading of which he was supervising. Mr. Engle, prominent business man and a member of the London Kiwanis Club, died in the local hospital at 4:15 o'clock this afternoon of a fractured skull, suffered when his head struck the concrete curbing. A native of Jackson county, Mr. Engle had lived here for 21 years. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. F. D. Wilson*, Mrs. Cecil Yeary and Miss Mary Lee Engle, all of London, and one son, Ralph Engle, student in a Louisville business college. Funeral arrangements had not been announced tonight.
*Mrs. Fred B. Wilson (Florence C. Engle) born 1902 died 1935. Must have been an error in the obit for her father.
The obituary also failed to show Edna Earl (Engle) Byble, born 1909, died 1999.
