Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Sunday, April 26, 1942, Page 2: Mrs. Ellen Pharis, 80, widow of the late Sidney Allen Pharis of Winchester, died Friday morning at Blessing hospital at Quincy, Ill., after a short illness. Mrs. Pharis, a resident of Lexington for 25 years, had gone to Camp Point, Ill., in September to visit her sister, Mrs. Barnett Cummings. A daughter of the late Thomas and Eliza Engle, Mrs. Pharis was born at McKee, in Jackson county. She had been a lifelong member of the Christian church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Everman, Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, Vernon G. Pharis, Lexington; one brother, Thomas Engle, Tecumsea, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Cummings of Camp Point and Mrs. Clemmie Owens, Erlanger, and two grandsons, John R. Madeira of the United States army air corps at Phoenix, and Vernon G. Pharis Jr., Lexington. Brief funeral services were held Saturday morning at Camp point. The body will arrive here at 11 o'clock this morning and will be taken to Kerr Brothers funeral home to await burial. Her son, Vernon Pharis, and his family will return here with the body. They had gone to Quincy Monday to be with Mrs. Pharis. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at Kerr Brothers. Burial will be in the Winchester cemetery.
