Obituary: SCOTT - Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 5, 2011, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, for Mrs. Alice "Rita" Hoffpauir Duhon, 85, who passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011 at Magnolia Estates in Lafayette. Interment will be in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Reverend David Hebert, Associate Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Nee Alice Rita Hoffpauir on March 14, 1926, Mrs. Duhon was a longtime resident of Scott after marrying in 1945. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley "Black" Duhon; her son, Donald "Don" Louis Duhon; her parents, Mineway Hoffpauir and Ida Miller Hoffpauir; her brothers, Moise, Lawrence, Chester, Harold and Noah, Jr.; five nephews; and one niece. Mrs. Duhon was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Altar Society. During her earlier years, she provided daycare for children in her home. These children affectionately referred to her as "Mom", since she was much like a grandmother to them. They enjoyed her home cooked meals and listening to her speak French as they sipped caf? au lait. She was a skilled seamstress and very talented in fine handwork. She quilted and often embroidered lovely pillow cases, which she gave as wedding gifts. She especially enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and booties for expectant mothers. These as well as afghans and quilts are cherished keepsakes for family and friends. Her cooking specialties were beignets, shrimp and okra gumbo and sweet dough fig tarts. She will be especially remembered for her innate ability to care for the ill and her love of babies and children. Survivors include one son, Gervis "G" Duhon and his wife Genie of Lafayette, their children, Brad Duhon of Scott and Shelly Trahan and her husband Darryl of Lafayette and their children, Phillip Lanclos, Adrienne and Tori Trahan and her daughter Khaleah; her brothers, Raoul Hoffpauir and Leroy Hoffpauir; her sisters, Audrey Stewart and Fanny LaGrange and her husband Lenny; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express thanks to those nurses and nursing assistants at Magnolia Estates, who provided care and support for Mrs. Duhon, especially Mrs. Wanda Anderson, who assisted her for many years. Thanks also to Mrs. Pricilla Roger for her dedicated care of "Mom" and for her friendship. The family appreciates Hospice of Acadiana for their comforting concern during Mrs. Duhon's last days and for family support. Pallbearers will be Brad Duhon, Darryl Trahan, Phillip Lanclos, Keith Blanchard, Mike Dupuis and Bryan Theriot. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SCOTT location on Sunday, September 4, 2011 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 4:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
