His obituary from the "Pittsburgh Press":"Rev. Franz Adolph Alford, for 16 years pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Duquesne, died yesterday at his home, 1007 Kennedy Ave., Duquesne. He was 73 and had been ill since October. A native of Sweden, Rev. Alford came to this country with his parents when a boy and grew up in Manchester, N.H. He was a graduate of Augustana College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Rock Island, IL., and was ordained a minister in the New York Conference of the Augustana Synod of his church. Before coming to Duquesne in 1924 he held pastorates in Florence, NY, JerseyCity, and Dubois, PA. He also was a director of the Augustana Home for the Aged, Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alma Alford, and two daughters, Mrs. Signe Starner of Belmont, MA."
