Notes
Birth
Gustafva was born at the farm "Gvshult Yttre" in the Hillared parish of Sweden. Hillared is located at 57 degrees, 37 minutes, 60 seconds North and 19 degrees 9 minutes East (57.6333 lat. 13.15 long.).Moved to
Gustafva moved here with her mother, Johanna Nilsdotter. This info came from Anna Lena in May 1999.
Marriage
Supposedly Gustuva married out of a royal family to marry Gustaf, though no details are known.Emigration
Gustafva and the children (Alida Christina, Hulda Eleonora, Ivar Alexius, as well as Amanda Paulina and her infant son Johan Wilgoth) left Marbäck either on August 6 or 13, 1886, for the port of Göteborg. Church records indicate August 6. Anna Lena says August 13. Anyway, from Göteborg they left on August 18, 1886, headed for Manchester, England, with ticket number 29:437:6420. They landed in Boston, MA. (Incidently, the only child not listed going to America with either Gustafva or Gustaf--though he clearly did--was their oldest son, Johan Albin. Anna-Lena says there were too many Johan A.'s listed to find him.) When they left their farm Skattegården for America, a new owner named Johan Sveningsson moved in.Immigration
The name of the ship was "Scythia", captained by Thomas Roberts, its ports of departure were Queenstown, Ireland and Liverpool. The Scythia was built in 1874 at Glasgow by J & G Thomson and Co. It was 420.8 ft x 42.4 ft, and part of the Cunard Line. Its maiden voyage was May 1, 1875, when it went from Liverpool to Queenstown to New York. It made that trip many times, until it was broken up in Italy in 1899.For Gustafva's (and her children's) voyage, it departed Liverpool on August 17, 1886, and arrived in Boston ten days later, on Aug 27.
Gustava's name is recorded as "Gustafa Lars." but seems to have been mis-transcribed as "Gastafa Lans."
