Captain Samuel Titus

Per the "Titus Family in America" by Dorothy M. Titus dated July 1943, pages 2-3 found at Heritage Quest Online, Samuel, son of John Titus and Mary Daggett was born 13 Mar. 1734 at Rehoboth, MA, died Dec 1818 and buried on Parher's Hill in Lyman, NH. Married Ann Bigelow on 11 Sept. 1760. Ann was born 30 May 1740 in Watertown, MA and was the daughter of Eliza (probably Eleazer) and Mary Fiske Bigelow. All of the children are listed.

Samuel Titus is listed in the DAR Patriot Index Vol 138 page 127-128 under member #I37399 found in FHC fiche #6051226: "Served as captain of the 7th company in the 12th Regiment of Foot, New Hampshire troops. He was born in Rehoboth, Mass.; died in Landaff, NH".

1818 death date and burial location per the Dorothy M. Titus and William R. Arthurs studies and confirmed by Ancestral File. DAR 1990 Index Volume 3 shows death in New Hampshire between 1817/1818. Death date and state found in the Patriot Index Centennial Edition Part III page 2949.

1810 census located sons Calvin and John S. in Landaff, Grafton Co., NH, living near one another with their wife and family.

1800 census shows him and a female (his wife) both over 45 living in Landaff, Grafton Co., NH, with 2 males ages 16-25 (this could be sons John Smith age 20 and Calvin age 23) and one female age 16-25 (this could be daughter Polly age 17).

1790 census shows him living in Landaff, Grafton Co., NH, with another male over 16 (son Luther age 19) and two females (wife Ann and daughter Polly). The older boys have most likely married and moved from home.

1782 moved to Landaff, Grafton Co., NH, and lived on a farm on Foster's Hill until 1805 or 1806 which he bought for 15 pounds. Later farmed on Moulton Hill, Lyman, NH, per the Dorothy M. Titus and William R. Arthurs studies.

1775 was commissioned Captain in the Continental Army, 7th Company, (Bath), 12th Regiment of Foot, Colony of New Hampshire on September 5, 1775, (Revolutionary Rolls Vol. 3, page 924) per the Dorothy M. Titus and William R. Arthurs studies.

1772 was made a Captain at a town meeting per the Dorothy M. Titus study

1765 family moved to Bath, Grafton Co., NH per the Dorothy M. Titus and William R. Arthurs studies. The "Gazetteer of Grafton Co., NH 1709-1886" by H. Child, page 515, showed he moved from Rhode Island to Bath about 1765.

1760 marriage is from the Dorothy M. Titus and William R. Arthurs studies. Ancestral File at the FHC shows a November marriage month and not September. DAR 1990 Index Volume 3 shows marriage to Ann Bigelow in New Hampshire in 1760.
