John and Margaret McCoy's household composition in the 1850 census included
John McCoy 26 Laborer
Margaret McCoy 27
Agnes 5
Ross 3
Margaret 2
John and Margaret McCoy with their children do not appear in Indiana County or any nearby counties in the 1860 census but there is a Margaret McCoy, an Agnes McCoy, and a Margaret McCoy living in Clarion County, Pennsylvania that are born about the same time as those in John McCoy's household in the 1850 census. There is a Margaret McCoy born about 1820 living by herself in Limestone Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. There is an Agnes McCoy born about 1845 living in Porter Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania in the household of Stuart and Margaret Rankin as a servant. There is a Margaret McCoy born about 1848 living as an adopted child with a Robert and Lettie Ross in Limestone Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania in the 1860 census. John and Margaret McCoy had a son named Ross in the 1850 census. This may have been Margaret's maiden name. It is possible that John McCoy died sometime between 1850 and 1860 and his wife and daughters returned to Clarion County, Pennsylvania where his wife's father lived. The Margaret McCoy living with Robert and Lettie Ross in the 1860 census would have been a granddaughter. Ross McCoy does not appear in Indiana County or any of the nearby counties in the 1860 census but enlists and fights in the Civil War. He is living in Blair County, Pennsylvania when he dies in 1867.
