Individual Details
Jonathan S. HIMES
(4 Jun 1830 - 27 Jan 1899)
Jonathan and his wife Ella Mina Himes appear in the church records for Bethlehem Lutheran Church and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania where they were communicants and where all but one of their children were baptized. Their son Adam Henry was baptized at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shannondale, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Both Zion Evangelical and Bethlehem Lutheran Church are close to each other although they are in different counties. The St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coolspring, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania shows that Ella Mina was added as a member in 1886 and later removed by letter but she and her husband Jonathan do not appear in the communicants' lists for this church. They later appear in the class lists for the Mead Chapel Methodist Evangelical Church in Knox Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. Jonathan's obituary in 1899 states he was a member of the M. E. Church for many years.
Jonathan's parents were David Himes and Salome Schaffner/Shoffner. Letters from Loy Himes (Jonathan's nephew) to Sam Lettie in 1977 and 1981 state that Jonathan was a son of David Himes. Jonathan and his wife Ella Mina also appear with David Himes' family as communicants in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church records. Jonathan and Ella Mina's youngest son was David Benjamin Miller or D. B. M. Himes. Jonathan's father was David Himes and Ella Mina's parents were Benjamin Boddorf and Sarah Miller.
