He was also known as Edward Himes. He began using this name after he moved to Michigan. He appears in the 1880 census in Alpena County, Michigan as Adam Himes. He uses the name Adam H. Himes when he is married in Alpena County, Michigan in 1886. His marriage record gives his place of birth as Pennsylvania and the witnesses to his marriage were his sister Ella Gillespie and her husband. His oldest son Charles R. gives his father's name as A. H. Himes on his marriage license application in Ohio. He appears as Edward Himes in the Alpena Directory in 1883-84 and as Edward H. Himes in the Alpena City Directories from 1889 to 1898. His name is Edward Himes on his death certificate. It erroneously lists his father as Edward Himes but gives his mother's name as Elminia Bodorf. His son Charles R. Himes and grandson Chance M. are living in Beaver County, Pennsylvania in the 1910 census. His grandson Chauncy C. Himes is living with Susan Himes (Edward Himes' widow) in Alpena County, Michigan in the 1920 census. Although it is not known why Adam Henry Himes began using the name Edward H. Himes, his mother's unusual name on his death certificate and his grandson appearing with his son Charles R. in the 1910 census and then with his widow Susan in the 1920 census in Michigan is proof that they are the same person.
