Baptized in the Lutheran faith. Confirmed at Singsaas Church. Joined the Army at age 17 at the end of WWII. Served during Korean War in Germany. Did two tours of duty in Vietnam. Wounded during second tour. After retiring from the army, he worked for the city of Woodberry, MN. Now retired and lives in Cottage Grove, MN.

Age 73 of Cottage Grove on March 16, 2003 after a short illness. Preceded in death by his parents Gilbert & Agnes; a brother Gilbert Jr.; two sisters Gloria & LaVonne; and a granddaughter Crystal. Beloved husband for 51 yrs of MariAnne; dear father of Christine (Tim) Scherr, Eugene (Carol), Jimmy (Karen), Russell (Roxonne), Gary, Angela (Paul) Jeske, & Bobby (Heidi); also survived by 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, and two sisters Ruby & Joann. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday 11 AM with visitation 10-11 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Halley Ave. St. Paul Park. Interment National Cemetery. Member of American Legion Post 98. Memorials preferred to St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Arr. Kok Funeral Home (651-459-2875).
