Biography
}
}William Forbes was the son of James Forbes, 2nd Lord Forbes, and Egidia Keith, second daughter of William Keith, first Earl Marischal.Paul: Volume 4, page 51 His date of birth is not provided in source but he is noted as being served heir to his father in July 1462 and thus likely of age at that date.Paul: Volume 4, page 51 He was certainly of age when, on 9 October 1464, he appeared as proxy for Alexander, Earl of Huntly, in the Parliament which met at Edinburgh on that date.

He sat in Parliament on numerous occasions between 1467 and 1478.
On 9 July 1477 he had confirmation of a charter granted in 1429 by King James I of the barony of Forbes.
He died at some point prior to 5 July 1483 when Alexander, Lord Forbes, son and heir of William, Lord Forbes, was ordained to pay to Margaret, Lady Dirleton, 2000 merks, being the double of the casualty of his marriage, for his failing to marry Margaret Ker, Lady Dirleton's daughter.Paul: Volume 4, page 52

Family
He married Christian Gordon, third daughter of Alexander Gordon, first Earl of Huntly, and Elizabeth Crichton.Paul: Volume 4, page 52 The marriage is said to have occured c. 8 Jul 1468. thepeerage.com for William Forbes, 3rd Lord Forbes They had children:

#Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Forbes
#Arthur Forbes, 5th Lord Forbes.
#John Forbes, 6th Lord Forbes.#Christian Forbes, married, as his second wife, William Ruthven, first Lord Ruthven. They had children.

====Note on Family====These are the only sons of the 3rd Lord Forbes and Margaret Gordon on the Scottish record, but it is said that General Baron Forbes, a distinguished soldier under King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, created a Baron in 1652, being presented with Kungsgard as a barony, claimed descent from William Forbes and Margaret Gordon. The writer of the History of the Family of Rose The Family of Rose of Kilravock, 99) thus refers to him: "Artholdus Forbes, born in Finland, first a Colonell under the Swedes, then a Major Generall, Governour of Pomerania for the Swedes, nobilitate by Queen Cristiana, and created a Senator of Sweden". The veracity of this has not been tested.
