He succeeded his older brother, Alexander, shortly before May 1491. Arthur Forbes married Agnes Lyon, daughter of John Lyon, 3rd Lord Glamis and Elizabeth Scrymgeour, about 1493. She survived him, and married, secondly, John Ross of Craigie.
