*Robert Sutherland, 6th Earl Sutherland was born circa 1347. He married Margaret Stewart, daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, Ross, Lord of Badenoch and Mariot MacKay, in 1389. Robert Sutherland, 6th Earl Sutherland died circa 1427; About 80 years old.

==Research Note by Genealogist of Clan Sutherland==
Some "sources" refer to Lady Helen Sinclair, daughter of Robert 1st Earl of Orkney as wife of William Sutherland, 5th Earl of Sutherland. The same sources indicate their daughter Janet was the wife of Hugh Ross, 4th Laird of Balnagown. As Janet wasn't born until circa 1400, more than 20 years after William's death, it is clear her father was Robert Sutherland, 6th Earl of Sutherland, William's son. This link would also go some way to explain why Marjorie, the daughter of Robert's son Alexander Sutherland of Dunbeath was a suitable wife for William Sinclair, 1st Earl of Caithness who would have been her cousin.
There is however no current evidence that Robert married Lady Helen Sinclair so he may have just fathered his daughter by her without entering a formal marriage contract.
