WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Preston E. Carbaugh, 79, formerly of 30 Mount Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at Richfield Recovery Care Center of Salem, Va.
Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Upton, Pa., he was the son of the late William W. and Ada Cooper Carbaugh.
His wife, Martha Delores Reed Carbaugh, died Oct. 20, 2000. They were married Feb. 19, 1949.
He attended Brown's Mill School in Kauffman Station, Pa.
Prior to retiring in January 1990, he worked for Hess Manufacturing in Quincy, Pa., for more than 42 years, mostly in shipping and packing.
He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, Leitersburg, and the Adult Sunday school class.
He was a member of South Chapter 2977 AARP and National AARP.
He is survived by one daughter, Sherry L. Bonn of Roanoke, Va.; one son, Marvin E. Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa.; one sister, Margaret Poe of Chambersburg, Pa.; two brothers, Lester Carbaugh of Mont Alto, Pa., and Orville Carbaugh of Waynesboro; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Walter Carbaugh, Marvin Carbaugh, Paul Carbaugh, Lee Carbaugh and William Carbaugh; and one granddaughter.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The Rev. Mark Pittman will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preston E. Carbaugh 79, formerly of 30 Mount Vernon Terrace, Waynesboro died at 6:20pm, Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, in Richfield Recovery Care Center, Salem, Va. He had been in failing health for the past several years and critically ill since Monday, Dec 5, 2005.Born Sept. 9, 1926, in Upton, he was the son of the late William W. and Ada ( Cooper) Carbaugh. He lived his early life in Mercersburg, Greencastle and Waynesboro. Mr Carbaugh attended Brown's Mill School in Kauffman.He and his wife, Martha delores (Reed) Carbaugh, were married Feb. 19, 1949 in Hagerstown. They moved to Mount Vernon Tereace in 1998. Mrs. Carbaugh died Oct. 20, 2000. Mr Carbaugh moved to the home of his daughter in July 2002 and entered the nursing home Oct.27, 2003.Early in his life he was a laborer at Nicodemus Orchards and then Frank Hess Orchards in Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in January 1990, he worked in shipping and packing at Hess Manufacturing in Quincy for more than 42 years.Mr Carbaugh was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, Leitersburg, and the adult Sunday School class.He was also a member of Chapter 2977 AARP and the national AARP.
