Served in War of 1812 against Great Britain. Enlisted for six months at the Nottoway County Court House, Virginia on July 1, 1813. Served in the 6'th Regiment of the Virginia Militia under Captain James Niblett, commanded by Colonel Grief Green. On October 1, 1813 he was discharged at Fort Norfolk, Virginia after providing John Newell as his substitute at his own expense.

His bounty warrant file number (NNRG) 55-160-30294 and bounty warrant number 30,294 for 160 acres of land. He has no pension file.
