John WINGO
(Abt 1789 - 7 Nov 1854)
Served as a private in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. Enlisted on July 3, 1813 at the Nottoway County Court House, Virginia and was drafted for a term of six months and was discharged on October 2, 1813 at Camp Tear near Norfolk, Virginia. He provided Samuel Foster as his substitute at his own expense.
He served in the 6'th Regiment, Virginia Militia under Captain Samuel Thomas from July 3 til July 31, 1813 and subsequently transfered to Captain Neblett's Company, commanded by Colonel Grief Green. Marched to Fort Norfolk, Virginia and served as a guard at the Fort.
His bounty warrant file number was (NNRG) 55-120-95135 and his bounty warrant number was 90,109 for 40 acres of land. He had no pension file number.
