Dabney WINGO

(Abt 1792 - 24 Feb 1868)




Moved from Nottaway County, Virginia to Carroll County, Tennessee in 1838 with four (4) sons. Settled near the Hermitage, later moved to Carroll County, near McLemoresville, living on the Marshall Place for about two years. In 1841 Dabney purchased from the Tom Hopkin's heirs, "The Wingo Farm" located two miles north of Trezevant. In 1841 Dabney sold 93 acres to Reddick Hilsman. The Wingo Cemetery is there. Last used in 1956.

He was a school teacher and made his own books.

Served in the War of 1812 with Great Britain. He enlisted on July 3, 1813 for six months (served five months and 13 days) in the 6'th Regiment of the Virginia Militia under Captain Niblett, comanded by Lieutenant Colonel Grief Green and Colonel William Sharp. Served at Fort Norfolk, Virginia and was discharged at Camp Cross Roads (near N\Fort Norfolk) on December 1, 1813. Contracted Typhoid Fever during service.

His bounty warrant file number (NNRG) 55-160-49333 and bounty warrant number was Number 49,333 for 160 acres of land. He had no pension file.
