Obituary in the "Religious Herald", a Baptist Newspaper published in Richmond, Virginia
Published 10/11/1906

"MAJOR SAMUEL B. WINGO On September 8, 1906, Major Samuel B. Wingo passed from our midst. Major Wingo was born April 27, 1827, in Nottoway County, where he spent the greater part of his life. He joined the Old Nottoway Baptist church when a youth, and served her long and faithfully, being a deacon for many years. He delighted in the Sunday Sunday school, and devoted much of his time and energy to the advancement of the work. He married Miss Martha Anne Perkinson in 1850, and after a few years moved to Chesterfield county. Here he spent the remainder of his life. He was a noble Christian man, and was never heard to speak a word against any one. The love of Christ filled his heart and was reflected in his smiiling face. It gave him greatest joy to contribute to the happiness of others. About two years ago a cancer formed on his left ear. During this last year of his life his suffering was intense, but through it all he was patient and submissive. When the end came he was willing and anxious to receive it. The deceased leaves a wife and four children, besides a great number of friends who feel a deep sympathy for the bereaved family. L. A. R."
