Obituary in the "Religious Herald", a Baptist Newspaper published in Richmond, Virginia
Published 2/10/1859

"WILLIAM ATKINS WINGO Died, Mr. Wm. Atkins Wingo, at his home in Nottoway County, VA. on Thursday night the 13th inst., in the 36th year of his age. Bro. Wingo professed faith in Christ, and was baptiszed into the fellowship of the Nottoway Baptist church, about 8 years ago, by Elder Wm. Tyree, of which he continued a consistant and useful member until death. --For several years he filled promptly and faithfully the duties of Clerk of the church. He was one of those, who, from the day he came into the church, was willing to take up his cross and follow Christ. He made it always convenient to be present at the meetings of the church. He delighted in the worship of the santuary, consequently did not forget to assemble himself with the people of God, as the manner of some is. He was liberal in his contributions for benevolent objectives. He possessed a kind heart, and though a modest and retiring man, exerted a good influence. In a word, Bro. Wingo, as all who knew him bear me witness, was indeed a good man, and will be very much missed. He has left a wife, three little children, and aged parents, with numerous friends and relatives to weep after him; but they weep not as those who have no hope. It is true his death was very unexpected, he was sick but a few days, adn was not thought to be ill until a few hours before he died. The brain being the seat of the disease, he was not conscious of his condition, hence, said nothing about death and eternity. But while he left no dying word to comfort his weeping friends, he has left behind a walk that leads fondly to hope that our loss is his gain. Like a Christian he lived. S.J.A.
