... , John (Crust) Wingo, married Cintha Wood (whose mother was a Seay, sister of wife of the first mentioned John Wingo.) He is substantial, honest, and upright citizen, and had children as follows: Hamilton, who married Caroline Hawkins; Calvin, who married Polly Wingo; Polly, who married Manning Ross and went to Texas; Simpson, who married Jane Wingo; Franklin, who married Lizzie Royston; Maiden, who never married; Wiley, who married Theresa Cunningham; Jackson , who married Margaret McMaken; Lewis Landrum, who married Mary Berry; Memory, who married Mary Pennington; and Nancy, who married Robert Reynolds. Of the eight sons mentioned, all entered the Confederate army, all served their country faithfully during its existence, and all survived to return to their home after its close."
Served as a private in the War of 1812 against Great Britain. Enlisted on October 1, 1814 for a term of six months at Charleston, South Carolina in the 1'st Regiment, South Carolina Militia under Captain James Brannon's Artillery, Colonel Means Regiment, Moores Brigade. He was discharged in Charleston, South Carolina on March 6, 1815.
His bounty warrant file number (NNRG) 55-80-20229 and bounty warrant number 18,1815 for 80 acres of land. His pension file number (NNRG) SC20859 and pension number 25582.
