IGNATIUS WHEELER (1665-1699)

Ignatius Wheeler was born in May 1665, in Charles County, Maryland, the son of John and Mary ( ) Wheeler.
He registered his cattle mark in 1680, when he was only fifteen years old (CCCR-1, Folio 184).
He married Francis Slye.
He purchased 116 acres of land that was laid out for him by William Hutch-inson, from said William Hutchinson, 11 March 1688. The land in question was called Wheeler's Folly and was situated in Charles County, Maryland. (Land Record Bk 11, Folio 432). He later sold Wheeler's folly to Henry Quandro in 1695 (Q No 1, folio 83). He and Francis also sold a parcel of land called Indian Field to Thomas Bowling "for natural love and affection which they bear said Thomas Bowling," 22 February 1696.
Later land purchases contain the following:
"By virtue of a warrant for 800 acres granted Ignatius Wheeler, of Charles County, 2 October 1697, I have laid out for said Ignatius Wheeler part of a tract called Red Bird Thicket, in Prince Georges County, and on the freshes of the Patomac River, adj. Joseph Marshall's land, containing 113 acres. (L. R. CC No 4, folio 60). (This land is now in the District >>of Columbia). Ignatius Wheeler wrote his will 14 March 1698/9, and it was proved in Charles County, 3 August 1699.
"To my son Luke Wheeler, 600 acres called Planters Delight and a part of a tract called Rich Neck and one Negro. To unborn child a tract called No design, 208 acres, Pamonkey Tract called Red Bird Thicket, 113 acres, tgo be sold by my execx., wife Francis . To wife Francis during her life a plantation of 600 acres called Planter's Delight.
After the death of Ignatius Wheeler, his wife Francis married, second, Peter Mills. Francis apparently never did sell Red Bird Thicket, as Luke Wheeler sold it to "Peter Mills, his step father for 5,000 pounds of tobacco 1 June 1728, after his mother's death. His wife Protheser acknowledged the sale.
