16 Feb 1795 William s. John & Mary Massicks

possible death

Alistair says: See attached images re coroners inquest report (about John Massicks who was Sarah Ann's g/grandfather) i.e. my 4x g grandfather.
There is a trial report in the lancaster paper and am going to try and get a copy of this not mentioned in the enclosed piece is that the company had drunk about a gallon of rum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder what happened to William? Did he get away to America? via Whitehaven? or with smugglers ??
I wonder why thomas barlow massicks went to America? Did somebody in the family blaze a trail?? If William changed his name we will never know.
Cheers, Alistair
PS: Another snippet from the gazette later in the year I have also enclosed .. couldn't find a trial report in the gazette but John was aquitted.

Alistair says: Thought you might like to read this cutting referring to our William Massicks from Torver (Sarah Ann's grandfather's brother). 70 gns is about 50,000 GBP today.
