GRO death index checked 1837 to 1839 - not found.
Parents are John MASSACKS and Betty.
Alistair says: See attached images re coroners inquest report (about John Massicks who was Sarah Ann's g/grandfather) i.e. my 4x g grandfather.
There is a trial report in the lancaster paper and am going to try and get a copy of this not mentioned in the enclosed piece is that the company had drunk about a gallon of rum !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder what happened to William? Did he get away to America? via Whitehaven? or with smugglers ??
I wonder why thomas barlow massicks went to America? Did somebody in the family blaze a trail?? If william changed his name we will never know.

PS: Another snippet from the gazette later in the year I have also enclosed .. couldn't find a trial report in the gazette but John was aquitted.

Good old grandpa was acquitted of aiding and abetting the murder of John Jones by his son, William. Hope you are all well and not worrying about the ghosts!! Alistair

Trial Lent Assizes 1821 - Not Guilty of Murder - Ref: Page 306 613/614. John accused of aiding and abeting his son William in the stabbing murder of John Jones, a Mulatto dance instructor. William was seen to be cheating while playing cards.Trial Criminal
Acquited of Aiding and Abetting his son William Massicks of the Stabbing Murder of John Jones, Dancing-Master at Moor-in-Torver in the liberty of Furness. Jones taught at Torver Kirk House, where John Massicks was Landlord of the said alehouse.Trial Criminal
In absence of light and the blindness of his horrid fury, the murderer (son William) inflicted two dangerous wounds on his father, who had nearly bled to death before medical aid could be procured.Endnotes
