My lot came from COLTON, I think I can help you.
Your JOHN MASSICKS is possibly a Torver, Cumberland, MASSICKS same tree different branch, a JOHN MASSICKS was born in 1815 at Church House (a Pub) in Torver, Christening 31st Dec 1815, no more information.
His Father was JOHN MASSICKS born 1770 at Torver, a Publican of Church House, Torver. He married MARY SPEDDING on 20th July 1793 at Broughton in Kirkby, Ireleth. They had 8 children that I know of. Another JOHN was born to this couple in 1796 but died aged 13.
JOHN (father) died 1822, burial 18 Aug 1822 at Torver, this JOHN could be the JOHN of Torver on the moor that was charged with murder on the 31 March 1821 but was acquitted, shame I do love a good hanging !
I can take this branch back to about 1590 also I will pass your message onto another MASSICKS living in Barrow in Furness for a second opinion.
By the way the Pub is still in existence.
