Henry PERRYMAN

Tavistock Devon. One of England’s greatest heroes, Sir Francis Drake, was born on the borders of Tavistock in 1542 and baptised in the parish church. His birthplace, Crowndale Farm, is 1 mile south-west of the town. A statue to him stands outside the school in Plymouth Road, Tavistock.
The town, the largest in West Devon, grew up around a great Benedictine abbey founded in 974. Tavistock became a stannary town — the administrative centre for the tin-mining industry based on Dartmoor. It also developed into a prosperous woollen centre.
The abbey was devastated in the 16th century during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and all that remains are three gates, part of the church cloister, a dining hall and a tower. Some of the biggest copper mines in the world were worked just outside the town.
Henry sailed from Plymouth on board the "Schah Jehan" on 24th August 1860 and arrived in Adelaide 2nd December 1860. Henry wasgranted a free selection of land at Table Top in the parish of Jindera 181 acres (Albury newspaper 11th March 1868. SCHAHJEHAN 75t,3 mast ship, B.1848 Denny, Dumbarton, 148.Ox30.2x22.0, ON15879 Owened by master, reg, London. Arrived 1st December, from London 21st August (Register 3rd December 1860). Capt. J.A. Cox. Stranded in Port River 2nd December, surveyed and abandoned to the Underwriters. Sold to local owners, she was involved in several incidents before becoming a total wreck near San Francisco 3rd February 1867. For further information see Shipwrecks in S.A. Book 1 Parsons.
