Individual Details

Albert WESTON

(24 Mar 1885 - 25 Sep 1947)

Cheryl Gray says: Albert was the last to be born in New Zealand, his younger siblings were all born in Australia. I can find no information about the time spent in Queensland, the first sign of Albert in Australia is the 1934 & 1935 Electoral rolls. He is here with his mother Selina at 514 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville West and his occupation is painter.
From 1936-1943 he is enrolled on the Victorian Electoral rolls, in Melbourne and a painter. In June 1938 newspapers throughout the country had a story about a man missing for 5 years from his home in Illawarra Rd, Marrickville... Albert Weston. It seems the family hadn't been able to find him to let him know that his mother, Selina, had died in December 1937, therefore her will could not be finalised without his signature on documents. Leopold is quoted as saying that Albert was a loner and had been "missing" for 5 years, however, he is on the electoral roll for 1933 & 1934 at the Marrickville address. Albert is also on the Melbourne electoral roll for 1936-1943, so maybe he moved and just lost contact.
Family members say that Albert was a talented musician and composer, he is said to have gone to the USA with a song he wrote that was later published in the name of another. Albert is thought to have written this song when the family of his girlfriend refused to allow them to marry and sent her away. Allbert never married and sadly I have been unable to find any information about the song or him being a musician.
