"Stephen's wife, Juliet Ann Deaderick Wendel was the daughter of David Wendel and Susanna Deaderick of Winchester, VA.. Her maternal grandfather, David Deaderick, Sr., of Wurtemburg, Germany, emigrated to America before 1750, and was among the German Pennsylvanians who settled Winchester, VA., the oldest town in the Shenandoah Valley. Juliet was a woman noted for her kindness and goodness; of a deeply religious nature, she endeavored to practice the teachings of Christianity in her daily life. She was a close communicant of the Presbyterian church for many years and left a lasting impression of tenderness and love upon her family and friends. Stephen was commissary and quartermaster during the Creek War; pension agent for all middle Tennessee for many years; county magistrate; mayor of Nashville; president of the Bank of Nashville and was interested in different mercantile pursuits; finally was a cotton planter on the Arkansas river."
