Individual Details
George Michael Deaderick Cantrell
(October 9, 1807 - May 25, 1886)
"George Michael Deaderick Cantrell married Clara Walker, daughter of Robert T. Walker, a Scotchman and merchant of Nashville, who was born December 15, 1824. Her mother was Adeline Poston Walker, of Clarksville, Tennessee, who lost her life, with an infant son in her arms, in the burning of the steamer Brandywine, on the Mississippi River, below Memphis, in 1830. Clara Walker Cantrell died April 2, 1891 at Nashville. One of her sons writes of her: "She was the personification of unselfishness. A member of the Presbyterian church, her life was that of a true Christian woman: Christian in the full and liberal sense, not erratic and narrow, but practical and broad, doing as she would be done by and always striving to impress this Golden Rule upon those about her."
"George Michael Deaderick Cantrell was an official in the Union Bank of Tennessee; Planter's Bank of Tennessee and Fourth National Bank of Nashville for many years. In the latter years of his life he collected a great deal of material regarding the history of this branch of the Cantrell family, that has been of the greatest help in this work. He was a member and an officer of the First Presbyterian church at Nashville for half a century. One of his sons writes of him: "As a Christian gentleman, pure in all his words and deeds, he left us the richest heritage, a spotless character; such a one as family, kindred and friends may look upon and remember with pride. He was of that old school of gentlemen fast passing away." " (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, pages 127 - 128.)
