"Emma Jane Greer was born about 1851 in Tennessee. On the 1860 census for Hancock County, Tennessee she was 9 years old and on the 1870 census she was 19 years old living with her mother. On the 1880 census for Hancock County, Tennessee, she was 29 years old and married to William Seabolt, age 29, who worked on a farm. They lived next door to Thomas Greer and John Greer (her brothers) so he may have worked for them. William "Fozy" Seabolt was born November 15, 1845, the son of John and Ellen Vaughn Seabolt. His birthdate is given in family records but according to ages given on early census records he may have been born about 1855, probably in Lee County, Virginia. He was a jokster and liked to play pranks on people. His granddaughter, Virgie Adams, said he would tell about when he and another man were walking down the road. He met a couple walking to town to get married. He told them he was a preacher and could marry them ... and did. She said he would tell the story and "die" laughing. Family stories tell that on his and Jane's wedding night, he spent the night with a girlfriend. Sometimes he would leave, expecting to be gone a few hours, and would return several days or weeks later, and act as though he had only been gone a few hours. Jane was a very small lady, just over 4 feet tall. She died on October 4, 1922 and William died August 15, 1943, both in Lee County, Virginia, and are buried at the Seabolt Family Cemetery."
