Individual Details
Captain Gilbert Dunlap Greer
(October 11, 1822 - April 7, 1910)
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Information on the family of Gilbert Dunlap Greer was taken from a Greer Chart by Leonard Greer of Lancaster, Pennsylvania as per GREER FAMILY, 1980 by William Greer Peck, page 117. Ellen Greer Rees gives his death date as April 7, 1912 and his marriage date to Susan "Carthurs" as January 3, 1842.)
"Gilbert Dunlap Greer was known as "Captain" due to his civil war career. He might have been a County Commissioner in Bosque County, Texas. Thomas Greer cited in 1922 confused family letter: father was born in Bedford County, Georgia or Tennessee. Also, all his children born in Bosque County, Texas, except Willmirth born in Hill County, Texas. I got the death date of 12 March 1910 from his tombstone. The wedding data from used is from Peck's book - Ralph Sloan had 3 January 1842." (William Greer, Wheaton, Illinois, 1995.)
William Greer has done much research on the descendants of Gilbert Dunlap Greer. I was last in contact with him in 2010 at wmngreer@wowway.com. He had a website at http://www.myfamilyonline.com/pedigree.php?personID=I76&tree=T1
