Individual Details
(April 15, 1859 - April 8, 1947)
"Like many Virginians, Jimmy [James Ferdinand Martin] left his native state to cross the Blue Ridge Mountains (in 1905) into West Virginia and obtained work in the mines. After a few years, he returned to Virginia and bought a farm from Adolphus Sisson in Shawsville. Once more, deciding to make another trip over the Blue Ridge, Jimmy sold his farm to son Frazier and moved to McComas, West Virginia. In McComas, he was employed at Pinnacle Power House and worked for Pocahontas Coal Company until his retirement. After he retired, he bought a service station and house in Montcalm, West Virginia where he lived the rest of his life. After his death, his widow, Allie, spent the rest of her years with their son Moyer and his wife." (Information about the family and descendants of James Ferdinand Martin provided by Kay (Martin) Hunt and appeared in ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE, 1984, by Billie Redding Lewis, pages 176 - 177.)
