Individual Details
(1856 - )
"Bluford Martin, born 1856; died Floyd County, Virginia and thought to have been buried in the same cemetery as his sister Virginia; married age 21, in Floyd County, Virginia on 14 June 1877, to Catherine Underwood, age 21, daughter of Noah B. and Ellen Underwood of Floyd County. The clerk at the time of recording the marriage erroneously wrote "Millie" rather than "Nellie," one of the names that Blu's mother, Eleanor, used. The clerk was kind enough to get the original out of the vault for this researcher to verify the error. Catherine was the g-g-g-granddaughter of the progenitor of the Franklin County Underwoods, Samuel." (ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE, 1984, by Billie Redding Lewis, page 172M.) (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: I am not sure if Mrs. Lewis is referring to Catherine Underwood or her mother, Ellen Underwood, with the "Nellie" error. Mrs. Lewis does not say if the original also contained the error, or only book copy.)
