"Louzell Brown Serratt, 99, of Amarillo died Friday, April 9, 2010. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Sudan with the Rev. Delbert Serratt officiating. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mrs. Serratt was born Feb. 16, 1911, in Gurden, Ark., to James and Mary Ann Brown. She married Johnny J. Serratt on Dec. 26, 1930, in Coleman County. He passed away in 1967. Mrs. Serratt resided at the Arbors in Amarillo for the last four years. She had been a longtime resident of Sudan. She taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Sudan for more than 50 years. She was a volunteer teacher with the Lotus Organization, helping youth in the area. Mrs. Serratt was a clerk at Morris Hardware and Variety for many years. She enjoyed helping people and maintained a clothes closet for the needy at her home. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Aubrey and Kenneth; and a grandson, Jason. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Serratt and wife Carol of Hico and Delbert Serratt and wife Mary Lou of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to The Arbors, 1910 Medi Park Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106-2187; or First Baptist Church, 108 W. Highway 303, Sudan, TX 79371." (Amarillo Globe-News, April 11, 2010)
