"James Cantrell married and moved to Georgia." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 118.)

"James was born in 1801 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He accompanied his parents to Hall County, Georgia, where he married 1st Elizabeth Patterson about 1824. She was born 1809 in South Carolina. Her brother, Hiram married Elizabeth Cantrell, James's sister, in Hall County in 1830. In 1830, James and his family were recorded in Hall County. The location of their farm became part of Lumpkin County in 1832 and in 1840, we find James listed in that county, next farm to his father. Their family had increased to seven (7) children and his mother-in-law, Nancy Patterson, age 70, born in North Carolina was living with them. His occupation was listed as engaged in commerce. In 1850, he was still living at the same location in Sanfords District, of Lumpkin County. He was a faramer and had real estate valued at $2, 000.00. His mother-in-law was still living with them. Dawson County, Georgia was formed in 1858 from part of Lumphin County and James's land was in the new county. He had real estate valued at $800.00 and a personal worth of $75.00. One more child had been born to his 1st marriage and then his wife died and he married 2nd, Emmaline L. Dobbs 16 May 1858 in Hall County, Georgia. She was born in July 1833 in Georgia. In 1860, a sister-in-law, Lorena Dobbs, age 20 was living with them. James could not be located in the 1870 census of Dawson County, but in 1880, he was listed in Sanfords District, Dawson County. Two children had been born to his last marriage. The youngest when he was 67 years of age. In 1900, Emma was living with this youngest son in Sanfords District, Dawson County, Georgia."
