1850 Johnson County, Tennessee census (64-9): John GREER, 82, NC; Nancy GREER, 71, NC.
1800 census: John GREER: 2 males under 10; 1 male 26-45 years, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-26; 1 female 26-45.
"John (Greer) born 14 January 1770; at home in 1787 and 1790; seems to have left Ashe County by 1800; married Nancy Elizabeth Owen; father of Joshua Greer (1801 - 1876)." (OUR GREER FAMILY HISTORY, 1983, by Thomas H. Greer, 335 Miramontes Avenue, Half Moon Bay, California 94019, page 42.)
"I descend from Benjamin and Nancy Greer through their son John and Nancy (Owen) and from their son Andrew J. Greer who married Mary (Polly) Spears. I would like more information on Nancy Owen ... I think her father was Thomas Owen. Mary Spears' father was James O. Spears b. VA, d. Johnson Co., TN. I have little information on him.
"Most of all, I would like to know the names of all of John and Nancy Greer's children ... siblings of Andrew. Andrew J. was born 1818 in Carter County, Tennessee. I know he had a brother, David, who married Mary's sister, Barbara Spears. I also believe there was Elijah b. about 1806, Thomas, and John. I have no information on them. Andrew J. lived in Hancock Co., TN at the time of the Civil War. I believe he died during the war and I believe his brother David also died during the war. The sons of John and Nancy that I have are Thomas, Elijah, David S., Andrew J., and John. Joshua is a new one to me but I would bet there were lots of children. All I know about John is that he and Andrew (grandsons), as well as "my son-in-law, John Greer, " were mentioned in the will of Thomas Owen, March 6, 1822."
