"This is the first actual birth date I have seen for John Greer. Actually, I have little information on him or Nancy. I am sure this is a different David Greer. I have the 1850 and 1860 Johnson Co., TN census for David and Barbara Greer and their children. They were married September 15, 1843 in Johnson Co. I have not found a census after 1860. I have been told that he died in the war but I have found no war records to indicate what unit he was in or any other information. David's wife, Barbara, and Andrew's wife, Mary "Polly", were sisters, daughters of James O. Speers/Spears and Elizabeth Shoun. Again, thanks for your help. (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: The David Greer family was added as a child of John Greer, based on information from Neva Sturgill Clark, 2212 West Diana Drive, Palatka, Florida 32177 in 1996. Her information was sent to her from Myrtle Greer Johnson, 705 Old Orchard Road, Bel Air, Maryland 21014 (now deceased) in 1992. Neva Clark thinks this is probably where this family connects to the Greer family. Her connection here was based partly on the 1850 Ashe County, North Carolina census, Family # 1395: David GREER, 43; Mary GREER, 39; Eliza GREER, 16; Alex. GREER, 12; Rebecca GREER, 7; Geo. GREER, 4; Wm. GREER, 2. This appears to be the wrong connection for David Greer, who married Mary "Polly" Sturgill, as per the information from Sandy McBride. From the census material Sandy sent, and the fact that John Greer, David's father, had left North Carolina soon after he married and at least by 1800 (as per Thomas H. Greer), his children probably would not have been in North Carolina in 1850 and 1860. Further strengthened by the two brothers who married two sisters, then the information Sandy has is probably correct. Neva was not sure this was where her David and Mary Greer fit into the Greer picture, but this was a logical place, until I received Sandy's information. This leaves us still looking for the place where David Greer and Mary "Polly" Sturgill fit into the Greer family.)
