"David (Greer), born 2 February 1781; married Nancy Hodges; lived near Joshua on Gap Creek; died in Ashe County 1840/1850; his sons are probably to be identified as follows: i. son, born 1804/10 - probably David, born 1809/10. ii. son, born 1815/20 - probably John, born 1816/17. iii. son, born 1815/20. iv. son, born 1820/25 - probably Shadrack, born 1824/25." (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: I am not sure where Thomas Greer got the names of the children he was using in the above. I obtained a copy of his manuscript from Lois Greer of Dublin, Virginia in 1989. On page 62a, of his work, he or Lois wrote in: "Another source lists the following children for David:" and lists nine children. I have put this list, as given, in this genealogy, even though the two lists don't match, the first seems to be guesswork of Thomas H. Greer. From another source, I have noted one son Thomas, who married Mary Ray. All descendants, dates and marriages or from the above source. EDMUND MARSHALL GREER - RACHEL FARTHING AND DESCENDANTS, 1980, by Roberta Rachel Greer Greenwell, page 2, gives the same list as used in this genealogy, but with no dates.)
