Elijah Hitt

Elijah was shown as an independent tithable in 1786 which indicates his birth about 1765. Elijah appears with his brother, Nathan, in the 1800 Tax List for Culpeper County, Virginia, District of David Brown and is listed as owning one horse (Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Vol 62, No. 1, January 1954, p. 124).

On 26 February 1806, Elijah was appointed guardian of his sister Elizabeth who was orphaned by the death of their father. Bond was set at $200 with Frances James as security: JP: William Gibson, John A. Armistead, William Brown, and William Horner.

Elijah never married and he lived with his brother Nathan Hitt in Warrentown, Virginia. His will was dated 31 January 1829 and was probated 24 March 1829. (Fauquier County, Virginia Will Book 10, p. 472)
