"S. M. Dunn, 89, of Hasse a resident of Comanche County for seventy five years, died at the State Confederate Home at Austin Friday, February 23, 1934, following a week's illness. Funeral services were held at the Hasse Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth L. Smith of Comanche officiating. Interment was made in Sardis Cemetary. Pallbearers were six of his grandchildren. Born November 26, 1844, in Alabama near Birmingham, Mr. Dunn came to Comanche County at the age of 11 years and located near where the town of Proctor is now located. At the age of 16, Mr. Dunn enlisted in the Confederate Army and served for 3 years, taking part in some of the most important battles of the Civil War. Always fond of the memory of the Blue and Gray, Mr. Dunn spent the last 3 years of his life in the Confederate Home at Austin. At the age of 25, Mr. Dunn married Miss Bethany Dunn and although the two had the same surname they were not related. They were companions for nearly sixty-five years until her death at the family homestead in 1929. Mr. Dunn never made but two moves after his marriage before going to live at the Confederate Home, locating first near Proctor and in 1902 moving to Hasse where he bought a farm and lived until the death of Mrs. Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Dunn is survived by the following children: John H. Dunn of Eastland, T. B. Dunn of Hale Center, C. G. Dunn of Cisco, A. D. Dunn of Hasse, and Mrs. Lou Ella Bouquet of Port Lavaca. He is also survived by a large number of grandchildren and other relatives. Three children preceded Mr. Dunn in death. They were Will Dunn who died at Eastland ten years ago, Joe Dunn, who died at Hasse in 1904, and Carl Dunn who died at Hasse in 1918." (The Comanche Chief, 2 March 1934, page 5.)
