"He was very quiet, everybody liked him. Not very strict. They lived in a one story house with 3 bedrooms ... plenty of room. Back then you could graduate from 8th grade and take an examination to become a teacher. 1st class certificate allowed you to teach for 4 years. 2nd class certificate allowed you to teach for 2 years. 3rd class certificate allowed you to teach for 1 year. Everyone in their family that taught had 1st class certificates. He moved from Morgan County, Kentucky to Granger, Texas to Kentucky. He was a lawyer in West Liberty, Kentucky. "He went to Neosha, Missouri and Baxter Springs, Kansas in 1885-1886, and returned to Morgan County for his marriage and where their oldest child was born in 1888. They removed to Oklahoma and Granger, Texas in 1890. Their second child was born in Willston County, Texas in 1894.They returned to West Liberty, Morgan County where their younger children were born from 1895 to 1901. He was a lawyer and farmer."
