Jimmy Gordon Moore, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Wichita Falls, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.Tuesday, September 29, 2015 in the drawing room of the White Family Funeral Home.
Graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery in Wichita Falls.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at the White Family Funeral Home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls at 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, TX 76310 or Bowie Church of the Nazarene at 1109 Garlington Street, Bowie, TX 76230.
Jimmy was born July 28, 1930 in Iowa Park, TX to Vernon Cain and Mildred Opal(Hunn) Moore. He graduated from Burkburnett High School and then joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex during the Korean War. Jimmy was honorably discharged in August of 1954. He proudly served his country and enjoyed wearing his service cap that let everyone know he was a Korean Veteran. Jimmy used his veterans benefits to attend college. He earned a B.S. degree from Midwestern University and a M.S. degree from East Texas State at Commerce. Jimmy taught chemistry and physics in Harold, Jacksboro, and Bowie for a total of 31 years. He was known as “Wizard�?by his students of chemistry and physics from 1958-1985. Jimmy married Velma Lee Kee in 1952. His greatest enjoyment in life was loving his family and dear friends. He enjoyed working on his farm, with his cattle, as well as faithfully helping and giving of himself to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred Moore; brother, Don Moore; and sisters, Wanda Wood; and Harriet Cunningham.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Velma Moore of Bowie; children, James William Moore and wife Jerrie of Ada, OK; Judy Lynn Kirk and husband Cal of Wichita Falls; Jane Ann Bohac and husband Joe of Gainesville, TX; 8 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
