GILMER - Mr. Sidney J. Pool, 93, of Gilmer, passed from this walk of life on January 19, 2010, surrounded by his family and friends. 
Mr. Pool was born to Otis V. and Ruby Davis Pool on June 8, 1916, in Rosewood, Texas, near where he lived at the time of death. He married Willie Oliver on June 5, 1937. They resided in Gladewater and later moved to the Rosewood community. Willie preceded him in death on October 25, 1979. 
Mr. Pool was employed for many years by Warren Petroleum near Gladewater, Texas and retired from there in 1978. Mr. Pool served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 142 A. F. & A. M. He was a faithful member of the Rosewood Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1978. Mr. Sidney loved children and although he never had children of his own, he will live on as a Christian example to all that knew him. 
Mr. Pool is survived by his sisters, Mrs. Rachel Smith and Mrs. Audrey Smith; and his brothers, George Pool, Moody Pool and Paul Pool. Mr. Pool is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and a loving church family. He was preceded in death by a very special friend, Mrs. Dorene Petty; and sisters, Lessie and Thelma Pool, Eunie Finney, Amie Bivins, and Ruthie Pool. 
Funeral services for Mr. Sidney J. Pool, will be held 2 p.m, Friday, January 22, 2010, at Rosewood Missionary Baptist Church in the Rosewood community with Bro. Charles Johnson, Bro. Wayne Whiteside and Bro. Michael Pool officiating. Stanley Allen, Al McCool, Pat McNeel, Al Keck, Frank Ford, David Jones, Leon McCauley, Mike Ashley and Larry Kearby, deacons of Rosewood, will serve as pallbearers. Bro. Sidney served for many years as a deacon at Rosewood and he will be greatly missed. Mr. Pool will be buried next to his wife, Willie, in Glade Creek Cemetery in Upshur County under the direction of Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. 
The family would like to publicly thank the Beacon Hospice at Margaret's House, Bro. Charles Johnson, and the Rosewood Missionary Baptist Church for their love and care during our uncle and brother's final days here. 
Visitation will be held today, January 21, 2010, from 6-8 p.m., at Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. 
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8
